Tax Filing Extension for Many Californians

Tax Filing Extension for Many Californians | Financial Planning

We are finding that many of our clients are unaware of the declarations published last month which extend both the California and federal tax filing deadlines for Californians who live in those counties which were impacted by the recent storms.

These declarations extend the filing deadlines from April 18, 2023 until October 16, 2023. In addition, Californians who live in these counties now have the ability to claim deductions for disaster related losses.

The affected counties are:

Alameda, Alpine, Amador, Butte, Calaveras, Colusa, Contra Costa, Del Norte, El Dorado, Fresno, Glenn, Humboldt, Inyo, Kings, Lake, Los Angeles, Madera, Marin, Mariposa, Mendocino, Merced, Mono, Monterey, Napa, Nevada, Orange, Placer, Riverside, Sacramento, San Benito, San Bernardino, San Diego, San Francisco, San Joaquin, San Luis Obispo, San Mateo, Santa Barbara, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Siskiyou, Solano, Sonoma, Stanislaus, Sutter, Tehama, Trinity, Tulare, Tuolumne, Ventura, Yolo, and Yuba.

The following articles have been published by the Internal Revenue Service and the State of California outlining additional details:
